 2022 Preview 


       Sumiton Christian completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Sumiton Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Winterboro by a score of 30-6.

       Since 2010, Sumiton Christian has gone a combined 51-72. Their 41.5% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sumiton Christian has managed to compile a record of 131-134. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 1A and 197th in the AHSAA.




       The Eagles are led by head coach David Powell who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-18 over the past three seasons at Sumiton Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Powell.

       Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-eight season stands at 234-94 (71.3%). His 234 wins rank 9th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Powell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-six times and won eleven region championships.

       The Sumiton Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region five.

       The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Eagles open the 2022 season on the road against region opponent Hubbertville on Friday, August 26 at Wiley Hollingsworth Stadium. Last year the Hubbertville Lions finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 1A region six. The Lions lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Wadley by a score of 28-14.

       Sumiton Christian and Hubbertville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-1-0 record against the Lions. They last met in with
